Things that are killing your JOY!

Joy

  • What are you thinking about?
  • What is taking up most of your time in the day?
  • Why do you feel the need of gaining more, when you can use what you already have?
  • Why do we fall into complaints often?
  • Why are we usually unhappy when we see other people succeeding?
  • Is there one way to success?
  • How do you define success? (Materialistic versus Spiritual Success)
  • I am lazy and tired! All my joy is gone. There is nothing to be happy about.
  • I should be over there, and I am only here. God what is going on?
  • Everyone is steaming ahead. There must be something wrong with me
  • I think I need more money. Yeah, that will make me happy…
  • I need to find a new job. This job is really getting on my nerves!
  • I have been in the same position for 5 years and yet they have not promoted me!!
  • Why do I keep failing in my exams?

Do these questions sound familiar? I know the feeling because I am in that position right now. It can seem very difficult to accept what position we are in, particularly when we perceive ourselves to be in a better position. We seem so choked up by opinions said about us, and what other people are doing that we forget who we truly are in the process of becoming who God wants us to be. We tend to be in situations where we ask God to show us what He wants us to do, but at times, we may feel ‘stuck’ in the process of trying to get there quickly. Everything I am going through right now is a process, and it applies to you too!

There are many reasons why your joy can be stagnant. Majority of the reasons are looking at man for help instead of God. This is one of the most common problems that we face at present. In reference to the above questions, we can see what obstacles are blocking our joy. We want instant replies and quick responses of how we can get to the top, not knowing that everything we desire is to do with a process. A process is a step by step procedure of where you desire to be. It can take weeks, months or even years for God to get you to where He wants you to be, but in order to be where He wants you to be, you have to trust Him. Learn to lay aside all your pain and burdens on Him. I tell you the truth, it is not easy, but you will know the importance of leaving everything in His hands and being free!

Sorrow may last for the night, but JOY comes in the morning! When we read 2 Corinthians 10:12 it says: “Not that we have the audacity to venture to class or even to compare ourselves with some who exalt and furnish testimonials for themselves! However, when they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely“. In other words, comparing and contrasting yourselves with others can add to the pain you are already going through. It is indeed an unwise move. You may have waited a long time, more than your peers, but you don’t know what they are going through behind closed doors. A smile can look deceiving, but it does cover up a lot of pain. However, it is very good and healthy to smile during the painful process.

It is very easy to look at someone who has a good dress sense and automatically judge them, based on outward appearance, and to be honest, it is happening most of the time especially in today’s society. Cultural pressures are increasing rapidly, the way our bodies should look, the clothes we should be wearing etc, all these things can suck the joy out of you. Why? Because our minds are not focused on God. Your Father knows everything your heart desires, but if our minds are on materialistic things, how will you be able to hear the voice of God? We must always be reminded that our joy comes from God, not the things of the world. The things of the world are only temporal. We are not taking any of our possessions to heaven. It is just you and God. I know it’s easy to say ‘well I have got a long way to go, so let me enjoy my life’. But we must always have a conscience that God could come anytime. We should enjoy until then, of course! But even if we don’t have the blessings desired, it doesn’t mean that we should sit here miserable, and in doubt.

Everyday should be filled with joy!! Waking up is a blessing! It is a GIFT from God than no man can give! Let us learn to appreciate that, and everything will become easier to love. You have a choice to be happy. You have a choice to allow joy to come into your heart. Will you allow joy in today? When we say ‘I surrender all, it means SURRENDER ALL! Not some, not few, but ALL! Be joyful everyday! Someone desires what you have. We just don’t see it because of our motives are somewhat selfish at times. Let us not take what we have now for granted. God is using each and every one of us for His Glory. And He wants to bless us so much, more than we can imagine, but we must begin with being happy with what we have. Whether it is a small or big blessing, use to the Glory of His Name.

Let your pain be an example to others around you who are experiencing other sorts of pain to be encouraged that despite their problems, they have a God who cares, who loves, and who understands. Nothing in this world can give you joy apart from God! He sent His only Son to die for us! That could have been you or me on the cross, but Jesus took our place. That is worth being joyful about! Another thing, stop allowing the enemy to steal your joy!!! I always call Satan a dirty dog because that is what he is! When you are down, you are more inclined to bring negative thoughts in your mind, and eventually invite the enemy to twist and deceive the more. Instead, rejoice in the Lord always, and AGAIN I say REJOICE!! Instead tell yourself everyday; “This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it”. Be happy with yourself and where you are. You are in a good place 🙂

Remember: There is always something you can be joyful for! Do not wait until everything you desire should fall in place before you enjoy your life! Enjoy it now! God has promised you that His plans for you are of GOOD and not of evil! Plans to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11.
