What is your Purpose in life?

What is your purpose in life? One might ask. Your purpose begins with God. In Isaiah 41 verse 10 it says: “Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice”. Honestly speaking, some of us do not know our purpose. We look around allowing our situations and current circumstances to define what our purpose is. Your situations should not tell you what your purpose is, you should! Eventually, fear starts kicking in. As you continue to grow older, you will get to a certain age and stage in life where you are likely to question yourself and your life. Thinking questions of where you should be, or where you should have been etc.

As a daily reminder, always know that God is the source and origin of your destiny. But before your destiny comes into the spotlight, you must have a purpose behind it all. If your gift is encouragement, are you starting from within yourself? Do you encourage yourself first? It is very unlikely that you will be able to encourage someone else if you do not know how to encourage yourself initially. Your defining moments in life are always available if you believe. You can choose to be happy or sad. The choice is yours. You can define your life by just a thought! There is power in a thought, whether positive or negative.

If you are at work, full-time, it is vital that you have a purpose when working. Some would say that they work for the money. Yes that is true. However, others would say that they want to develop their skill set. Although we all need money, isn’t there better things that you can do at work asides thinking about how much you are going to earn? Your purpose should not be to just make money and be rich. Your purpose can be to invest towards the poor countries that lack good food and water, shelter and education. I strongly believe that if one invests in these things, rather than materialistic things, they are more likely to live a purposeful life. We must search for several opportunities when given the chance. Do not allow any opportunity to pass you by!

An acronym that really got me thinking is the P-O-O-R factor:

• P – Passing

• O – Over

• O – Opportunities

• R – Repeatedly

 

The truth of the matter is that often at times, we fail to realise the amount of opportunities that God allows us to have, but because we try to fit God into the schedule that we want Him to abide by, we miss these opportunities and start beating ourselves up. You cannot expect a blessing if you are not open to any opportunity that comes your way. This has to do with purpose, as I mentioned previously. Every opportunity must have a purpose behind it. God is interested in an opened-mind. He desires to know what you are thinking about, what plans you have for the future, and how it fits altogether with your purpose. People who are always expectant cannot miss their opportunity. Why is that? Because they have high expectations that something good is going to happen to them. And they are the ones that are more likely to gain the blessings. They believe in their expectations because they know their purpose.

There will be different seasons in your life for training and growth. Your purpose should be your vehicle to your destiny. However the way you can achieve this is by knowing who you are in Christ. This is where your identity comes in. Do you know who you are? Identity begins with God. Eventually, purpose will add value to your life. Philippians 3 verses 12-14 says: “(12) Not that I have now attained or have already been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own, (13) I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, (14) I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward. (This is Paul speaking).

So Paul’s purpose was to win souls for Christ, and to leave the things in his past behind. Are you carrying any baggage on you that is pulling you away from your purpose? It is believed that ‘EXCUSES’ are some of the barriers to success. You better believe it. Procrastination and excuses are the wonder twins to lack of purpose. If you keep making excuses on every opportunity, you may not get far at all. Procrastination itself is also a thief of time, because it robs you of the things you plan to do in the day. Not only that, you may say, ‘oh I’ll do that tomorrow’. When tomorrow comes, it’s another excuse upon another. Do not make up excuses against your life because the greatest motivation is the pursuit of your destiny. Take every day as it comes and make a difference!

Your purpose is putting value into what you are doing. When you have the right motivation and the right direction, you will fulfill your destiny and your purpose. So I ask you today, what is your purpose, and how is it leading you to your destiny?
