The Importance of Worship

Worship 1

What is worship to you? Is worship something that you do on a Sunday? Or maybe when things are not going so well? Or maybe when you feel like it? No…worship is A LIFESTYLE! One of the greatest things that God has called us Women of God to do is to Worship Him. I used to find it hard to worship. I would usually tend to worship God when my life was going well. If things seemed too tensed up, or something I invested in backfired on me, I wouldn’t be bothered to worship. I was lukewarm, only wanting to do things when God made a move. But today, I saw a status from someone and it said:

“You don’t really want God. You want what God can give you. You want the nice things, purses, cars, clothes and you find scriptures to back up your lustful desires. How do you think God feels about this?”

When I read this, I had to really assess my thoughts about re-organise my priorities. This week, I have been so anxious and fearful! I am being real. I am human and so are you. We all desires things, which is good. However, how this statement occurred to me was the way in which God Himself feels when we get angry or anxious for worldly possessions. Sometimes, we can question God and say where is He when you need Him, or where was He when my sister died, or where was He when I was preparing for my interview, or where was He when I lost my job. Does it ring a bell? Most times, we need to step back and realise what God has ALREADY done in our lives.

Who woke you up this morning?

Who enabled you to brush your teeth and take your bath/shower?

Who allowed you to leave your house in safety and come back in safety?

Who prepared table on the food after you came back from work?

Who is always with you when you are fast asleep with your mouth open? (LOL!)

IT IS THE ONE AND ONLY GOD! The God who loves you and I so much! The God that deserves all the worship! Yes I have been selfish, but now its time to give God what He deserves! Worship must come from the heart. It is not just worshipping God when everything is going well, but it is also worshipping God when all hell is breaking loose. Usually, when I am anxious, rather than running to God, I would run to family and friends. Not saying that they are not the right people to talk to, but in any situation, I have learnt to ALWAYS consult God FIRST! Why? I’ll tell you…there are some things that you go through that only you and God need to know. For example, if it is something very personal, and you do not feel comfortable confiding in a close relative or friend, speak to God. God will always use someone to speak back to you. Aside that, He knows how to speak to your heart! He can either speak to you directly, or through other people.

Let us be reminded that worshipping God not only brings blessings, but INNER PEACE! Imagine waking up everyday not having to worry about anything, but having God on your mind 24/7…He will give you His full attention if you give Him yours! What does scriptures say about worship. Well let us have a look:

* Psalms 100 v 1-5: Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.  Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.  Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.  Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.  For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

*2 Kings 17 v 38-39: Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods.  Rather, worship the LORD your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.

* John 4 v 24: God is a Spirit (a Spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (Reality).

Giving God the worship says ‘More of you, less of me’. That is what should be our aim everyday! We must strive to make an effort to worship, so that our hearts and minds can be at rest. It is not for Gods benefit, it is for you and I. Remember when you worship God, you allow Him to move into your life in ways you would not imagine, why? Because He ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. When you are on the verge of giving up, or feeling fearful or lonely, why not challenge yourself to get up and just worship. When the enemy tries to steal your joy and your peace, worship God. He will fight your enemies Himself for you. All you need to do is keep your eyes on Him and worship. The true meaning of worship comes from within. So I ask today, what are you doing with your time today? Lets worship Him together.
