How To Stop Worrying About Your Problems

I’ve always been very good at math. It was my favorite subject. The concepts came to me easily and as a result I was prompted by my math teacher to take a class that not many did called additional math. On my first homework submission, he gave me a poor grade. I confronted him because I was sure my answers were right. He told me that indeed they were but that I didn’t show my work, I didn’t reveal to him the process by which I came to the answers. I was annoyed. “It’s not fair” I said, after all I had got the right answers, wasn’t that the point. He told me that actually it was not, he explained that getting the right results doesn’t necessarily mean you understand the right process.

Once you have really learnt how to process the information properly then you will always get the right result, so in his class he focused on the process.
This is the same principle that we can apply to life. Sometimes we find ourselves going to and from looking for what we consider the right result, but we have not stopped to consider the process. Given the proliferation of false churches home and abroad; this man of god and that one promising to make your problems go away and provide the answer to your needs, it leads me to think that we have become very results oriented. As long as we get what looks like the right answer, we don’t care about the process by which it comes.

Problems in life, much like problems in math are meant to increase you; Increase your knowledge, understanding, wisdom. They make you better. God is always God. His strength is unmatched. He created the universe and everything in it, so do you think your problem is too difficult for him? Certainly not, but I have come to believe He is focused on the process. Consider the children of Israel who wandered in the wilderness for forty years. When God delivered them it was with great signs and wonders. He parted the Red Sea, sent manna from heaven and more, yet they wandered. He could have probably spirited them all to the Promised Land if He so chose, but they needed to go through the process in order to grow and transform.
Sometimes the process seems to suck. I mean I’ll be frank. It is hard work.

Sometimes you need to feel pain, sometimes even shame. It is not always easy, you may have to work and rework your approach to it, but it is necessary. When a pupa is being transformed into a butterfly, I wonder if it hurts. We have all heard the term growing pains. This life is not about having the most money, the best marriage, wonderful kids and more, those are all just perks and if that is all life is what a passive life, we might as well never leave the baby phase.

The real deal about the life we lead is transformation, becoming more who we are meant to be, so that we can actually recognize and fulfill the purpose for which we were born. Right now I am in the midst of a process; it is no fun at all. I am a crier so I have had moments when the tears fell and I remember going to God and saying “Enough, you said you won’t give me more than I can bear” and My heavenly father responded patiently, “my daughter, you have much growing to do, (so suck it up, you have the strength inside of you, besides I am with you always!)

I am always wary of the concept that you have to force your answers down from heaven, so that if you haven’t got what you want it’s because you haven’t prayed or fasted enough. By all means pray, it is imperative that we do so. I believe that it is not only about telling God what we need, but hearing from Him and connecting to Him, it’s about learning how to be still and how to walk with Him.

By all means fast. That is teaching you how to feed your spirit and not just your flesh. It is teaching you how to bring some things in your life under submission. As I write this I recognize that I have to bring some emotions under submission in my life even now. I get angry too easily and I feel hurt too often. I need to learn to stop, pray and then act, too often I do it backwards by acting, then stopping and finally praying, by then life is invariably in a big mess but thank God for God, He is always there fixing all the broken things just the same and if I haven’t learned my lesson, he gives me the same homework in a different way, so that I can understand the process.

In life we will not always get what we want and in fact bad things may happen to us. Problems like storms are sure to come. It is the natural order of things, just like the rains have to come for the land to produce life; challenges have to come in order for us to produce our best selves. So when a problem comes, yes pray, fast but also take some time for introspection. Let us ask ourselves if there is something to be learned here, something that can add to our growth. Let us not spend so much time ascribing blame to “our enemies”. I was thinking about how Christ asked us to pray for and bless our enemies and I wondered why if someone is the source of torment for us that we must still bless them. Then it hit me, Jesus is more concerned with who we are and who we become, what happens to them is of less consequence. As we pray for our enemies we become transformed and that my dears is the bottom line.

So, if you’re in the midst of a storm, stop worrying. It will pass. It always does. The question you need to ask yourself is “do you understand the process?”

If you don’t thank Him now, when will you thank Him?

Are you waiting for everything to go well in your life before you realise the importance of thanking God during your trial seasons? For me, I have been in sticky situations whereby I ‘waited’ for my problems to gently die down before I could really serve my Father. But the less I praised Him, the more problems arose. Have you ever been in a situation where you feel that your prayers and thanksgiving have been so powerful that no other problem or obstacle will come your way? I have…

It can be very easy to praise God depending on our circumstances, but why should we wait until things get better before we acknowledge Him? We are living in a society where pressure is constantly increasing; the way we look, what we eat, what music we should listen to, the clothes we wear, the job we should have, the finances we should be earning etc. I was talking to a friend a few days ago and was speaking on behalf of materialistic things. Realistically, we need shoes, clothes, money, food, etc. But why should we be so overly concerned with all these things? In order for you to remember to run back to your first love and serve Him, why not reflect back over your life and meditate on the good things God has done for you?

There were times in our lives when we done things that were not at all pleasing to God, yet He still forgave us. Maybe we laughed at someone who thought they could not make it in life; maybe we thought too deep into our own concerns that we did not have time to think about others; maybe we did not give God the full acknowledgement and recognition that He truly deserves…all these things we do, and yet God loves us!! So I say, if we do not thank Him now, when will you thank Him? Will you thank Him when things are getting better, or would it be beneficial if we all thank Him during the painful process? Life is a process, life is a painful process, but in the end, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Always have in mind that thanking God is a high form of respect, and that is what He truly deserves! God does not need us to ask for our permission to serve Him, that is what we are created to do! We must always have this in our minds. When we wake up, when we prepare for bed, when we study the Word, we must always thank Him in advance because when having that attitude, it allows more blessings to pour out for us that we will not have enough room to receive them. (Malachi 3:10). Let us always be on our guards to serve God in thanksgiving. I know life can be hard, really, it can be. But we must remember to always be thankful. Yes you may not have enough time to spend with God every morning, but just to say to Him “This is the day that you have made for me, I shall rejoice and be glad in it” is a form of thanksgiving. We are not only thanking God for what He has done in our past, and our present, but also our futures too! We are also thanking Him for the people God has placed in our lives, and the ones He has taken out of our lives.

Everything happens for the purpose of Gods Glory. When a door opens, thank Him; when a door closes, thank Him! Regardless of the outcome, He is working EVERYTHING OUT FOR YOUR GOOD! It may seem painful now, but we shall get there! Encourage someone today to continually thank God for all He has done! Let us not take the gift of life for granted! Because we know our God is Faithful, it can be forgetful to thank Him for life, but in all things, let us appreciate the fact that we can breathe and is healthy. Keep thanking Him in the hard moments, there is a reason behind your pain. Give thanks with a grateful heart!

Are you content?

What is holding you back? What is making you complain so much that you do not realise what you have? I know it can be hard! I have been there as well! But can you look back on your life and really dwell on the good things that has happened? The blessings, the love, the family in your life, the career, protection? All these things we have and even more! It’s just time we start to realise it!

The question I usually ask myself is ‘What makes me content?’ Is it having a lot of clothing, or having the best job that pays generate amounts every month? Would you be able to define contentment for me? From what I believe it is, it is being grateful for the things you have now, and not complaining about what you do not have. From a biblical perspective, Paul was talking about how he was content for all he had, although he did have some needs and desires. He stated this in Philippians 4 verse 11: “Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am”.

Paul stressed the importance of contentment and about how he has fixed his mind on being content regardless of the circumstance he is in. It is very important to remember what we have, and use it to the best of our ability. It may be a job that you are working at. A lot of time, society can define you by where you work. For example, if your someone who works at McDonald’s or Primark, society may classify you in a way that you aint ‘in the now’. But do not allow this to define you. You must know who you are! You are not where you work, but it is how you define the situation that makes the difference.

You may work at these organisations, but are you using it to build your skill set? The role you are in now is shaping you towards your future. Where you are now, God knows why! It is not a mistake! He knows why you are still where you are. Don’t feel because you are not living the ‘high life’ that you cannot enjoy your position. I recall a time in previous years where being  ungrateful took over. I would complain about little things, cry my eyes out, look at others and what they have and compare it to my situation, and not realise how much God had blessed me. Even up till now, I can say I am a living witness to the Goodness of God! I may not have everything I desire now, but when God says it is time for Him to bless me, I will wait with high expectations!

Remind yourself always to wake up happy and joyful. Why? Because ‘this is the day that the Lord has made…we shall rejoice and be glad in it!’. The most important thing you and I have today is LIFE! Life is the greatest gift of all! We tend to take it for granted because we know we have a good God that wakes us up everyday! But can you imagine those who cannot wake up on their own? Maybe those who slept last night and didn’t make it the next day? How about those who have to be supervised to get up each morning? Yes you would say ‘but I am not them’; this is why we have to be content in every situation! Lets always be happy! Regardless of what comes our way! Some people can annoy you, and yes they will, but should you allow that to disrupt your happiness? No…make a decision to always thank God for all you have! There is always someone out there who would love to be in your position!

Do not take your position for granted! There is a reason why you are there! For now, hang in there, because it will only get better! Your best days are surely ahead of you! Continue to be grateful and content for the things you have! Some day, God will use what you have and take you to your destiny! In the meantime, keep encouraging others and ensure you inform them on the importance of contentment 🙂

Don’t lose your focus!

I wonder why it can be difficult to keep focused on what we are supposed to set our minds to. Could it be that we ourselves make it difficult, or would you suggest that it’s the people you surround yourself with that make it hard? So many questions can go through ones mind. It is very easy for us to ‘over-think’ things and assume that our situations will never change…well let me tell you something…DO NOT LOSE YOUR FOCUS! Yes, it is easier said than done, but keep your mind-set on things that above! (Ref: Colossians 3 v 2). Remember we must constantly renew our minds. The renewal of the mind does not happen overnight; it happens with a decision. Not only with a decision, but how you position yourself to be. I could decide to allow negativity to overtake my mind, but I choose not to. Why? Because I do not want to lose my focus!

I was talking to my friend yesterday and she was telling me that ‘we do not have enough time’ If you do not understand what that means, it is basically saying that whatever your calling is, do it with all of your heart, as tomorrow is not promised. Our focus should always be on our Father who will enable us to stay on the right path. Wonder how this world would be if we just focused on the one who gives us His time everyday. The one who wakes us up each morning. The one who leads us out in safety and brings us back in safety. If we make a conscious decision to keep our focus on God, you will have peace in your heart. You won’t have time for quarrels or arguments. Why? Because you have decided to keep your focus on the right source which is the Word of God. Keep studying the Word, and you will enjoy your life.

We tend to lose focus from the following reasons:

  • Societal changes
  • Peer pressure

  • Temptation(s)

  • Negative attitude(s)

  • Lack of forgiveness

  • Comparison towards other people – (This is one that we are fond of doing knowingly and unknowingly)

If we keep doing these things, we cannot expect our minds to be free. Being free starts from within. Being focused starts from within. You must wake up every day and start your day with a smile. Being your day with Jesus by thanking Him for allowing you to see another day. Once you commit your day into the Lords hands, all you do shall prosper. Why worry about tomorrow when everyday has its own troubles of its own? You do not need to add any more stress to your day by having a negative attitude. Instead you should seek God and pray. In Matthew 6 verse 33 it says that we should “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and everything else shall be added unto you”. What better feeling it is to put your focus on God rather than man.

Has it ever occurred to you that man will change, but God will never change! Ladies, we need to be reminded of this on a daily basis. Lets be aware of the fact that it is only God that can grant you His peace! Not as the world gives, but His extraordinary peace that nothing in this world can buy. God is not cheap! He deserves your focus and your time, so give Him what He deserves. Let us make a decision today and confess that we shall focus on God. Initially, you will eventually know when your focus is on God. When things that used to bother you don’t bother you anymore, you are on the right track. Yes the enemy will come and remind you of your past, remind you of what you done last night, but once you have asked God for forgiveness, what more is there to ask? Even before you open your mouth, God already knew what you were going to say.

Lets remind ourselves that we are not here to entertain anyone. We must keep our minds focused on what is important. But what is really important to you? God should be the first important person in your life. Once you have that in mind, everything else will fall in place.

Do not let what you are going through define you!

One of the main issues that cannot be avoided are problems! Problems, problems, PROBLEMS! Why do we have them? Where do they com from? Sometimes we question God asking Him why we are going through certain situations, relative to other people who are having a stress-free life. It is very easy to compare and complain about why your life is not going well, or not going the way you ought it to be. But I want to let you know that God sees everything!!

I was talking to a friend the other day, and she was telling me that she works so hard and does not see the results manifest. I could totally relate to her, as it was a sensitive topic. I had to tell her that she is not alone. Have you noticed in life, when you are going through something, you feel like your the only one going through it? Well guess what, you aint! Every single one of us has our own battles to carry! In other words, we have our own individual crosses to bare.

It may not be easy now, but it does say in His word that our latter days will be GREATER than our former days!! It is so easy to complain about life, and about what others have, and what you do not have. Maybe you did not get the first class you wanted in your degree, maybe you did not get the job you took several hours applying for, maybe you have been unemployed for more than 5 years, maybe your dissertation got lost on your laptop just a day before your submission date, maybe you could not get married this year, maybe you are in a financial crisis, maybe your worried about your health, maybe your concerned about certain people in your family, maybe your addicted to something that you cannot let go of…LET IT ALL GO!! William McDonald composed a song called “I surrender all to you, EVERYTHING I give to you…WITHHOLDING NOTHING”.

How many of us can actually say we are going to give God everything!? It is easier said than done right? Believe me, I know! But let us try not to do certain things in our own strength, rather give it all to God! 1 Peter 5 v 7: “Cast your burdens onto Jesus for He cares for You!”

Another thing to keep in mind: Be happy for those around you that are being blessed! None of us know what one is going through behind closed doors! This could be their own opportunity for their breakthrough and blessings, so allow people to enjoy what God has given them, and eventually, God will also grant you what you also desire. Do not allow their blessings to make you miserable!

The truth is, how you deal with other people determines how God deals with you!

Key points:

– Have a positive mindset

– Do not complain or compare yourself to others

– Do not allow what you are going through to drag you down

– Ask God for His Peace

– Pray for more happiness in your life

Do not allow your emotions to control you!
