TWO YEARS AGO…

Two years ago, on Friday 11th May 2018 was the day my eyes opened. I remember getting ready for work, when the phone rang. I heard my sister crying downstairs and knew something was up. Whilst doing my make-up, I remained calm and rushed downstairs. Then I heard the words: Glory’s gone! I had a very strong feeling that was the case because there’s a type of cry one cries when it’s death-related. I remember heading to the train station and arriving to work. I didn’t even eat breakfast at home because I was trying to understand whole situation. A woman like me going to work the same day my big sister passed away…woah!

Moving on, here I am today. Two years later. I can’t say the journey has been easy or I’ll be lying to you. The journey, the risks, the silent tears have been demeaning, but the strength, joy, and wisdom that these past two years has brought to my heart are key lessons I’ll forever cherish. I decided to leave my full-time job to pursue my career in writing and public speaking. At the time my sister passed, I already had two books. The vision I had was to continue writing more books and run quarterly workshops. This vision became a reality. Without no financial backup or another source of income or job, I took the leap of faith and left what was extremely comfortable with a very good pay, to remember what my purpose is and why I exist. I couldn’t put a price tag on my sister; no amount of money is worth a loved one.

I did not want to keep doing the same routine; I wanted to impact lives. My vision to set up Authentic Worth is to help, support and bring worth back into people through storytelling and book-writing. Since then, I’ve managed to host several book workshops, social events, annual book launches, and most importantly, publishing four Authors books in 2019. I’ve also been invited from several TV presenters and companies to talk about Authentic Worth and my book-writing career which has been humbling, as well as promoting my books in WHSmith.

The vision is growing and many people are inspired to write books. I wrote my third book titled From Glory to Glory – a book dedicated to my late sister. Her name is Glory and I decided to name the book after her as a way for her legacy to live on. I decided to turn the book into an audiobook because of its impact and life-changing transformation. I knew there was so much in me that wanted to give out to people. Was I nervous? Of course. Did I have a plan? Indeed, I did and I still do! However, I didn’t allow my fears to entangle me; rather I trapped them by keeping it moving and not remaining complacent.

I refused to look at what I didn’t have…support or no support…income or no income, none of that stopped me. If it did, I would have quit, but I didn’t. Authentic Worth is still running and will be two years in October 2020. Don’t allow financial burdens, low self-esteem or lack of support to stop you from doing what you’ve been called to do. If the world hasn’t stopped, then why have you?

Authentic Worth is passionate and intentional about bringing worth and investing in aspiring authors to share their story with confidence and turn their pain into purpose. Many people are sitting on their gifts for fear that nobody will notice them, so they feel inclined to stay in the same position. I don’t want anyone to feel trapped; there has to come a point where you know what you want and go for it. I never knew the impact of not having a consistent income would do to me, but it didn’t take me off course. The results may not show forth as I intend for them to be, but step-by-step, I’ll endeavour to stand with those who are willing to share their story with boldness. Your story is your story and no one can take it away from you.

This is my story…I have been on a journey, and it has been a hard one. The decisions I’ve made to be the woman I am today is only by the Grace of God. I can’t do this on my own. I know what is ahead of me is greater than what I originally had in mind. I am not saying you have to copy what I did, you must apply wisdom first! Not everyone is called to do a 9-5 and not everyone is called to be an entrepreneur. They both have their advantages and disadvantages, regardless, it carries a lot of triumphs and a lot of pain, but it will be worth it! There is no position that is better than the other. Your purpose, however, should be more than money or position. It should transform the lives of others around you and bring change in a broken society.

Don’t sit on your gifts; you don’t have to wait until something drastic happens before you make a change. Look around you. There are many people wanting to hear your story and utilise your talents. I am glad and excited for all our 2020 Authors and looking forward to helping you publish your book and get it out to the world.

Remember: If you don’t believe in yourself or your vision, how will others believe in it? Don’t sit on your gifts.
