I know how you are feeling. You thought that life would be simple and easy; no frustrations, no stress, no fear. You could be a strong church goer, pay your tithes monthly, but still deep down in your heart you still feel confused about things that are beyond your control. You would plan your life according to the way you think it should go. It starts off great, then eventually a long the way, certain things just stop working for you. Nonetheless, you could be a really kind individual; someone who constantly puts others before yourself. You always seek the best out of other people, you encourage them, make them feel loved and supported, however you do not feel as if it is benefiting you because it drains you at times. Lets be real. When we desire to help a loved one, it can be draining because it’s a commitment to keep up with how their life is going. You have chosen to stick with them until they become happy, just to find out that no matter what you do, it just won’t work because human beings have mixed feelings.
The life we live can be confusing at times, but you must bear in mind that you are not alone at all. Your confusion is an opportunity for you to be sincere with yourself, realise that you need help and humble yourself so that God can heal your pain. When we hit a certain age for example 25, we feel the need to sort out our problems by ourselves. We feel as if we do not need our parents or guardians to tell when to move house or when to get married. The more we try to solve our problems in our own strength, God cannot do anything, because our assumptions are “I know my life better than anyone else does”, so you leave God on the side until it gets really tough, and you cannot handle the pain any longer. So when you pray for something, and it does not happen, you blame God thinking that He does not love you, when He really does. All along He was teaching you the ability to be patient. If we are not careful, our current situations can block our blessings simply because we are so focused on them that we make it an idle, rather than taking them to God and really expressing how we feel.
God will always make an effort to get your attention, but at times we are just too occupied to listen. Being ‘self-enthroned’ and not God-focused can lead to delayed blessings. We must put in the back of our minds that although being blessed by God with finances, great friends, a good solid job are all important, they are all just bonuses. It will not satisfy you at all. But renewing our minds on the Kingdom, knowing that you are aiming for Heaven should constantly be our focus.
If I tell you about the things I have gone through and is currently going through now, you would thank God for how far He has brought me. I am talking from experience. Sometimes I wonder about the people God placed in my life, whether they are close to me or not, how far they have gone with their lives, and whether they are meant to be with me on this journey of life. There are some friends I thought would stay in my life for a long period of time, just to find out that some had passed away, others have moved to another country, and some who have fallen out with me. Sometimes the pain is still unbearable because we tend to think we are okay by filling our emptiness with partying or sleeping around, and buying things we really can’t afford, but still these things do not satisfy.
Your confusion could be an indicator that God wants to communicate with you. Maybe you are finding the answers in the wrong solutions. Has it ever occurred to you that when someone is blessed in a particular way, and they tell you what they had to do to obtain that blessing; you try to imitate them, and the return was not as great as your initial investment. What do you do when favour isn’t on your side? What do you do when you have done all you can; prayed, fasted, cried yourself to sleep, cut out social media, even isolated yourself from people, yet to find out you are still fighting the same problem? It feels weird doesn’t it. Just because something isn’t happening for you right now doesn’t mean that it will never happen.
God is not a God of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). Confusion comes of the enemy, because there is no truth in him. He is a liar and a thief, and will always try to confuse, confound, and mislead us. I remember when I prayed for God to grant me a job interview in this month of May, and I had the opportunity of attending an interview. I told God that this month I will get a job offer. God made a way for me to get the day off work and my colleague agreed to cover me. I tell you I was so happy! During the interview process, I felt very timid, I felt shy, my words were not coming out the way I expected. Although I done thorough research on the company and prepared my questions, I just felt in my mind that I did not perform to the best of my ability. As I left, tears were nearly falling down my eyes, because I already felt in my heart that I was not going to get it. As soon as I turned on my phone, a friend sent me this lovely message:
“I was listening to this song by Kirk Franklin called – ‘Give me that’. It was so powerful, especially when he says ‘Lord, you took away everything, now you are my everything’. God does this to help keep distractions and temptations away and make you focus. He did it to Job…took all his riches and his children. Yet he did not lose faith; instead he praised God even more through his sorrows and came out with double the blessings he made before”.
When she sent me this message, I was so encouraged and felt so much better, that whether I got offered the position or not, my faith will still remain. Ladies, your trust in God should always be stable and in place of peace! However, I did feel very confused to some extent because I was trying to figure out why my words were not coming out properly. I wondered if my nerves got to me, and just felt like they did not have enough faith in me. I would rather be real with you, and touch one person through this message! Because I know the struggle of finding a stable job that you desire and yet nothing is coming your way. It helps me to know however though, that I am not alone in this, and that people can relate to me very well. I told myself that whatever decision the interviewers make, it will not affect me in any way because my God has the final say!
The things that we think we need, are the same things God is saying that we do not need. The only thing we need is Him. When we have Him, we have everything, because He is the provider of all things. We must realise and put in our minds that God knows what He is doing. So do not be discouraged by your closed doors. If God wants a door to open, you can be certain that He will open it for you. All the fires of darkness cannot stop it! When God closes a door, He is actually doing it for your benefit. He is not punishing you, but is making you trust in Him more. You would be surprised at the amount of battles God has protected us in, and didn’t even know we were in them.
If you want to overcome confusion, you must have radical faith. Faith can add years to your life, but the things that are limiting your view is man’s opinions and perspective of you, relative to God’s view of you. Sometimes we think God usually speaks through our friends, but it is not always the case. It is therefore important to be careful of the advice that your friends give you. You have to be real with God and with people. When you feel confused, let it out and don’t try hide it. I know some women may not enjoy confrontation, but when something is really on your mind that you do not understand, keeping it in you will not help. Instead you can overcome confusion by the Power of the Holy Spirit and His Word.
When it feels as if God has abandoned you, reminded yourself of how good He has been to you for waking you up each morning, allowing you to go out safely and come in safely. God who made you and I will not confuse us in any way. His plans for us are of good and not of evil. Our God is a God of peace, prosperity but moreover LOVE! When someone has deep love for you, they would not confuse you, instead they will give you peace of mind, and remind you that everything will be alright. Your confusion serves a high purpose. The rejection, the tears, the alienation, the noise; they will all make sense one day. So in the meantime be still and know that God has not forgotten about you. Do not limit God by putting Him in a box thinking that your problems are too small. Always remember that if He gives you life daily, He is more than capable of sustaining you in any storm you are currently facing. Don’t fight it in your own strength. Just rest!
Truth is ever to be found in the simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things. If we are not careful, confusion can cause division amongst loved ones. Remember your enemy does not like unity, so remind yourself that when you are offended by what someone has done towards you, learn to let go and let God! You may be confused about being in a certain relationship. Maybe you have been in a relationship for a while, and nothing seems to be working. There are too many arguments and quarrels that it is making you want to just walk out. Hold on; listen to His voice. I just want to encourage someone that you are coming out of your pain! You are coming out of your confusion! You are coming out of your misery. Yes, it may not happen when you want it to happen, but behind the scenes, God is working so hard on your behalf to make you strong. Where you are now is not forever, it is temporary, so enjoy every bit of the journey.
Whenever you don’t understand what is happening in your life, just close your eyes, take a deep breath and say “God I know it is your plan. Just help me through it”. Remember not to mistake God’s power for His absence. His timing is perfect and His presence is constant. He is ALWAYS WITH YOU! (Deuteronomy 31:6).
Note: “Listen: the Voice of God will never contradict with the Word of God”. (Numbers 23:19)
