The Struggle to Recover

In life, you have to work hard to get well. Not only just from a tangible point of view such as getting a new job, being promoted on your job, buying a house, but also with God. Faith without works is dead, so the challenge for you is to charge your Faith levels in Him, and believe wholeheartedly that all things are working together for your good; the good and the bad!

When somebody tells you that your lazy, how would you take it? Would you laugh and not take it serious, or would you really examine yourself and understand why the statement was made? You have every ability to put in as much effort to make your plans prosperous. What makes you put effort into something you have been thinking about? Some people could be lazy spending quality time with God in the morning; others could be cleaning the house on a daily basis. The truth is, we all have something we are struggling with that we want to change. It could be our attitudes; I know a few people take it out on loved ones when they get hurt by someone who ‘thought’ cared for them. I do not believe anyone should be treated bad because of what somebody else did to them, because you are more likely to take out your frustration on them. We have all been there; we may even take it out on our parents or siblings, those that genuinely do care and have our best interest at heart. The truth of the matter is that there is so much pain that one can take, and we must ensure that the way we are treating one another is encouraging and supportive.

The struggle to get up every morning to work can be a burden, which shouldn’t be. After all, weren’t you the one who asked God for the job initially? I was reading a powerful message that Heather Lindsey wrote and it said:

“I remember waking up from my 9-5 and being thrilled about it being a Friday. I couldn’t wait to GET away from the office and enjoy my weekend.By Sunday night, I was back sad again about Monday. Then the Lord showed me that I won’t learn what I’m supposed to learn finding joy based on a day. How can God show me what I’m supposed to learn if I complain 5 days a week? I shifted my perspective and really started enjoying my job. I noticed that my work ethic changed. I started to get promoted at my job and I started to really be thankful for that season. Before I left that job to go into ministry full-time, the company allowed for me to take my job from New York to Atlanta so I could work from home for two years, all because they trusted me. I knew it was all the Lord and the fact that He prepared me for that transition. So, know that your days where you are NOW are preparing you for where God is taking you NEXT. Learn character, discipline and develop in trusting Him”.

This message taught me that no matter where you are in life, whether you are working full-time or part-time, you can still enjoy your job rather than complaining about it and trying to find a way out. I used to be like that myself. I found it so stressful enjoying where I was working because it felt repetitive. There was no change, and it seemed as if I was not learning anything, until I changed my perspective and starting thinking positively. Not only that, but I realised how many people out there did not have a job, relative to myself who did! Sometimes, the things you complain about is what someone is PRAYING ABOUT! The job you hate so much is the SAME JOB that someone is crying for. You would be surprised at the amount of people who would want to be in your position. You think your going through hell, look at the person next to you…people smile trying to cover up their pain, but it really is braking them slowly. They may not realise it now, but it is a struggle to recover from situations like this.

The Israelites were stuck in the wilderness for 40 days (Joshua 5);

The woman with the issue of blood for 12 years (Luke 8: 43-48);

Lazarus who was dead for four days (John 11).

All these people had problems, but some took quite long to recover. Imagine staying in an environment where you can’t grow? Your just stuck. You have a vision to move forward, but your current situation has left you questioning if God is really for you? That is what happened to the Israelites! They were held captive in the Land of Egypt by the Egyptians. God used Moses to save the Israelites from their foes, but it took them quite a while to escape. Why? Because they did not put their whole heart in trusting God; they even accused Moses of trying to save them when they could have been ‘satisfied’ with where they are. In other words, they were ‘okay’ to be slaves for the Egyptians, but GOD HAD ANOTHER PLAN!!

Sometimes you have to remind yourself that where you are now is NOT your destiny! You may not understand what you may be going through now, but when you seek God first, He will surely provide you an answer! Do not feel the need to do it on your own. You will surely fail. Yes it sounds harsh but it’s true! God truly wants to bless His people, but He can only bless those who are HUNGRY FOR IT! The Israelites were satisfied with where they were in the Land of Egypt because they don’t know anything about moving forward. The struggle they were in swallowed them up thinking that God was not on their side, when He was. God knows how to get you out of your struggle, but how bad do you want to come out of it?…

I know some of you want to excel, and that is a good thing, but do you really want to be free? Or are you just settling for second best? God wants to grant you His best blessing for you, but you are the one stopping it through your thoughts and actions. Ladies, we are all going through something serious that we want God to help us come out of. Some may be relationship issues, broken friendships, family issues, lack of financial stability, health problems; you name it! But how much do you want God to heal and take away the pain? Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord; plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope”.

God is the only one that can establish you! No matter how big you want to be in life, God will always show you His way of blessing you! What God has in mind for you will often exceed all your expectations. If you keep complaining about life and where you are, you are not learning, and more likely going to stay in your current position? I do not know about you, but 2015 is an extraordinary year for me! Another thing that can contribute to our struggles is when we speak defeat. When ever you speak defeat, you are helping the enemy do its job. Instead, make a conscious decisions to pray daily and ask for strength and the boldness to endure the pain, endure the stress, endure the heartache, and He will swap all your struggles with His peace. God came to grant you peace; not as the world gives, so why let your hearts be troubled? (John 14:27).

Finally, what is stopping you from stepping into your promised land? Why does it feel like you aren’t going further in life? Because your mindset is pulling you back; it could be negative thinking or being envious of what your neighbor has, not even considering the fact that they too have been through their own pain. A lot of people do not want to go through the process, but just want to get to the destination. If you are not careful, you may stay in your current position because you chose not to trust God, rather do it in your own strength. What makes you think that you can do anything without God? The one who knows you more than you do! It is impossible to do anything without Him. To recover from your pain is only possible when He is in it because He alone knows the end from the beginning!

Ladies, we must ask God to give us the patience to wait for the kind of promotion that comes from Him, and not try to always figure out everything. Mans rejection is truly God’s protection! Delay is NOT denial! Don’t think that way ever! For every struggle, for every closed-door, for every heartache, know that it is all working out for your good! There are some things in life that we may never understand, but we truly need to be steadfast in His Word before we can see changes. Don’t pray to God if you are not willing to move your feet and do your part! Life is a journey and it starts with step-by-step processes. Little processes will eventually results to big progress! The struggle to recover should draw you closer to God, and to remind you that your never alone, whether you are someone who opens up or not. P

Never be afraid to tell someone what you are going through, because as Iron sharpens Iron, so does a friend sharpen a friend! We all need one another in our struggles! (Proverbs 27:17). We should be in need to fellowship with one another in order to overcome our struggles. Surround yourselves with people who inspire growth! All in all, remember that prayer changes everything, so start doing it! The struggling you are dealing with today will develop the strength you need tomorrow!

We only trust people we know. If you are struggling to trust God, it may be because you don’t really know God

Be Addicted To Bettering Yourself

There is so much going on in the world today. The pressure of being who you others tell you to be is killing your Spirit. “I am too old, I am too young”. Why settle for their opinion when God has said to you that you are a Holy Nation? A Royal Priesthood? You are set apart to do great and mighty things. For me, I have been in positions where I have procrastinated too much, and feels like I am still where I started, but in order to be what you desire to see must start within. Your attitude…have you had a check up on that lately? Our attitude can contribute to the success or failures in our lives. In our day-to-day walk with the Lord, we must be sincere about ourselves, examine what flaws we have, and aim to make a decision to change them.

It can however be hard for some to move on simply because they don’t admit to their faults. We all want to be blameless and pure, but how can we move forward? You must always start with confessing your faults before you can get better. It does not happen over night. There will be some uncomfortable areas you will have to endure, but in the end, it will be worth it. In 2 Corinthians 10:12 it says “Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding”. In other words, those who compare themselves to others are UNWISE! Why look at someone’s live and imitate what they do, when your journey is different from their own? Focus on your lane, or else you’ll lose track.

Self-improvement is what we need constantly. This starts from our mind. We must go back to the basics. Your mind can change the way you think about yourself; both positively and negatively (if you allow it)…You have so much power over your mind, but the challenge is, are you using your mind well? What are you feeding yourself? Is it positive? Is it helping you in your Spiritual walk with God? It is a challenge but we shall get there!

Most of us have difficulty changing a habit because we continue acting as if we live in the past. Wonder if it could be your past that is holding you back? But the real question is ladies, “What is holding you back?” Most of the answers consist of fear, bitterness, hatred and pride. But do you realise that you put this on yourself? You don’t choose fear when you wake up. It is not something that any of us would dream to have. Fear is a trap towards success. How many of us really know that? Fear is a secret ingredient that contributes to a corrupt mindset. When you hear negativity, what do you choose to believe?

I remember when I was going through something very terrible; all I could do is dwell on the problem. I then heard a voice telling me to pray. If I knew then how to pray, my situation would have got better. But because I was so weak in my Spirit, my feelings took over. How many of you has had that feeling before? You want to get better, you want to heal, you want to progress, you want to enjoy every bit of your life, but your past is pulling you back. Maybe you have not forgiven yourself for the things you done, guilt can trip you if you are not careful. Why do we meditate on the things we have done towards ourselves, and not embrace the beauty that God has created us to be?

The Bible is filled with verses of change. I have often heard it said that the only easy way to deal with change is when you are the one doing the change. The truth of the matter is many times we are not in control of the change and therefore we find it hard to adjust, because REAL CHANGE comes from God. Change is real and necessary. For salvation we must change our minds, repent and agree that God’s way is better than our way. For Spiritual maturity we allow the Holy Spirit to change us as it is written: “Do not be conformed to this world: but be transformed [changed] by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is good, acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2 KJV). We should not be attached to the customs and attitudes of the world, but to renew our minds through the Holy Spirit.

What ever area in your life you feel you need a change, be honest with yourself and work towards getting better. It is no good for you to wake up every morning feeling hopeless; it is vital that we get better Spiritually, Mentally, Physically, Emotionally and in particular Socially! It is good to have a positive group of people surrounded by you! The way you can improve is choosing the right team who have positive mindsets that will keep them going. The road won’t be easy, but with positivity, you are more likely to go far.

What God has promised you this year IS FOR YOU! Numbers 23:19: God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” When change is coming your way, be expectant; Gods promises are yes and Amen!! When choosing to change, it must start from within. Start speaking the words of your dreams, of who you want to become, not the words of fear and failure.

Your life is a work in progress. We can’t rush into changing our habits. Take a few steps at a time and enjoy the changing process.

Judas is in the House

In relation to my previous post on ‘Isolation’ I spoke about what it is and why it happens to some of us. Now I am going to dig deeper into the people who are surrounded in your life. The environment you are in is more likely to define you whether you choose to understand it or not. If you choose good friends who will feed you spiritually and is full of wisdom, you are more likely to succeed and prosper; however if you follow the crowd just to fit in or to be appreciated by someone, you are more likely to lose yourself in knowing who you really are. It is important that we can distinguish the two in order to know where we stand as individuals.

In Luke 22, we see that Judas was one of Jesus’ closest friends. Because of the attention that Jesus got from the crowd, the Chief Priests gathered in their own corner discussing how to get rid of Jesus. Instead, Judas discussed with the Chief Priests that the only way they could get rid of Jesus is if they could give him money. Indeed, they did. When there was no crowd present, the Chief Priests had the opportunity to seize Jesus and take Him away. Imagine someone you knew, who was very close to you, the person you laugh with, go to school with, attend the same church with, eat together in restaurants; the pain of that friend betraying you for something insignificant. It’s like the person does not know your worth, and was just using you for the fun of it.

Have you ever had those friends that knew you were good at something, and just used you for it? Maybe you are intelligent in Maths, and you have a close friend who isn’t. All of a sudden, this friend starts draining you by taking your notes and answers. Just to find out that when the friend has achieved the grade they wanted, they leave you. Has it ever occurred to you that people only want to rejoice with you when your up, but when your down, they are nowhere to be seen. You will be shocked at the amount of people who are in your life to get something from you and leave you in a minute because human beings can be very manipulative. The amount of people who will un-follow you on Twitter and Instagram because of what they ‘heard’ is shocking!

In reference to Luke 22, I love the fact that Jesus knew who Judas really was and how he had already betrayed Him. Because of the guilt, Judas gave the money back to the Chief Priests and eventually hanged himself. How many of us knows our betrayers? It’s a scary thing to even think about, because you would not expect someone so close to you to let you down. But that is life! This is why in these circumstances, we must gain strength from God and consistently seek Him for divine wisdom and revelation. I remember being in a girls click when I was thirteen, and up to now, I only speak to one of them; out of five girls! Some people are only in your life for a season. Don’t try to make them stay. If they want to walk out of your life, LET THEM WALK, because your destiny is not tied to theirs! God won’t allow you to go where they are going because He has a different path for you to take.

Our minds are so occupied on how to make someone like us. Yes it is good to win favor, to be acknowledged and appreciated, but doing it with wrong motives won’t get you there. For example, being in a place where your friend is draining you spiritually can have such a negative impact on your own relationship with God. When you are not stable, your other relationships won’t be stable too. Some people have got amazing personalities; they smile, they encourage, they uplift, but when a friend does not have that kind of heart, it starts to attract envy which clearly does not get them anywhere. We must understand that our pain serves a purpose. We are not here to make enemies, but we should be wearing the full armor of God to fight the negative spirits that dwell in high places.

At the same time, I am not implying that it isn’t good to have friends, it is good! In order to enjoy what God has for you, you cannot afford to be against your friends, because I strongly believe in life, we need people. People help us get to the next level. In fact, you need a bit of both, good friends and bad friends; the haters and the lovers. They are the secret twins that will enable us to elevate to the next level in your life. This is why we see in the Bible that Jesus Himself had so many haters. What did he do? Nothing. Because He was so well-known and loved by so many, certain people did not like it. It can be confusing, but I know deep down in my heart that your tears serve a purpose; your confusion serves a purpose; the way people treat you serves a purpose. What you are going through is not a mistake, but it will HELP someone who is in your life. Some people need to realise that when they go through certain situations, they must get to an understanding that someone has already been where they are. You cannot afford to surround yourself that puts you down, it will drain you. You need to be around positive vibes as it will not help you. Not everyone was created to be for you! You will be surprised at the amount of people you knew relative to the people you know now, because things happen, life changes, people get hurt, you meet new people, you move to another country; it’s all a part of the growth process.

It is not a coincidence that you are hurting right now. I say endure the pain and do it any way! You must be yourself and only yourself! If you pretend to be fine when you are not, you are honestly deceiving yourself. When someone has upset you, be willing to open up, but do it constructively with a loving and tender heart. On the other hand, there are times where SILENCE IS THE BEST ANSWER! You won’t even have to say anything, but let the other person meditate. It can be difficult to love someone who is draining you I can’t deny that feeling! It took me quite a while to let go of a friend that was cutting me deep. It was like I was being suffocated by someone I really loved.

Most times the reasons why we go through painful situations is because God is trying to get our attention. If we ha the perfect friendships and relationships, would we still endeavour to seek God first? Do you think He will be your first priority? It’s a struggle for most of us, including myself because at times, it is very easy for me to confide in a close friend more than God, which should not be the case. Because the person is there physically, we can quickly talk to them, but God Himself. Be encouraged because you are not alone in this! We all need a friend, but God sticks closer than a brother!

This may be a bit too strong for some people but it has to be said: “Gossip is spread by wicked people; they stir up trouble and break up friendships” (Proverbs 16:28). Be careful who you express yourself to, because not everyone is for you. This is what Jesus had to go through Himself!

Love you and God bless!

Betrayal 2015

Are You Lonely?

Loneliness is a state of mind, an emotion brought on by feelings of separation from other human beings. The sense of isolation is very deeply felt by those who are lonely. The Hebrew word translated “desolate” or “lonely” in the Old Testament means “one alone, only; one who is solitary, forsaken, wretched.” There is no deeper sadness that ever comes over the mind than the idea that we are alone in the world, that we do not have a friend, that no one cares for us, that no one is concerned about anything that might happen to us.

I don’t know why this is happening, but at times, I tend to feel so alone. I do have really good friends, don’t get me wrong, but it just isn’t enough. I wake up early in the morning thinking that the day will go well, until an incident occurs with a dear friend of mine. Have you ever had that feeling?

Sometimes in life, you will feel so alone; nobody understands you or the pain you go through. It just seems so difficult. I was telling my friend recently that no matter how you feel, God was on her side. It is easier said than done to say this, but it is indeed true. When nobody sees the way you see things, don’t force them too. They were not meant to understand anyway. It can be painful when friends betray you. Its like the story of Judas and Jesus, when Judas betrayed Jesus. Then again human beings are manipulative people. We always focus on ourselves first, rather than putting the needs of others before them.

But you may wonder what are the factors that make people isolated? It could be various of reasons; when a friend tells you a secret and finds out that other people are aware of it. Some people tend to distance themselves from others due to fear of being judged, not being able to ‘fit in’ and also, not used to having so many people around them. What I can encourage you on today is to know that God loves and cares for you so much! You would be surprised every time He smiles down on you. At times we even assume that the reasons why we are lonely is because we do not have what other people own, so we accept it to be ‘their fault’. On the other hand, some people don’t discuss their sense of isolation, which can result as a big problem.

Not feeling free to talk about loneliness adds to the problem and to the judgments of the experience. If you judge yourself for feeling lonely, it makes it even more difficult to take steps to change the situation. Then you may judge yourself for not taking enough action to solve the problem. Sometimes we place ourselves in cages where it feels people have betrayed us, when really the enemy has been your attitude all the while. It’s not your neighbor that is making you feel so lonely, it’s the way you think. Your mind has the power to control the way you think.

Loneliness can be different for certain people. Many people are lonely even though they have acquaintances and activities. Having hundreds of “friends” on social networking websites isn’t the same as having someone to share a movie or to get a cup of coffee. One of the loneliest experiences may occur when you are in a crowd of people you do not feel connected with or when you are with a life partner/friend and feel no connection. It can be very painful, however we must always put in our minds that God is for us!

In order to avoid this type of feeling, meet new people, travel around the world, speak to your neighbor; you would be surprised at all these things, and the impact it can have on your life. Lady, you are never alone! God has got you! So be encouraged today, and be a blessing onto someone you know who feels alone. Let them know that they are not forgotten! Sometimes it just takes one word to make someone smile!

He is the friend who “sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24), who lays down His life for His friends (John 15:13-15), and who has promised never to leave us or forsake us but to be with us until the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

God bless x
