Are you struggling with your emotions?

It can be very easy to feel led by your emotions when surrounded with several situations that have left you no choice but to deal with it in your own strength. It can be difficult to open up to people for fear of being judged or looked down on. In this life, we will struggle. We will feel alone. We will feel hopeless, but that does not mean that we should ignite our emotions. Emotions are good, yes, but only in particular situations. They should not be used for ‘self-pity’ or attention-seeking purposes. Sometimes when you think about the time you have waited for something, and you see others around you getting that blessing you wanted, it can be very easy to start crying and feeling sorry for yourself. But we must have in our minds to always control our hearts above all things. (Proverbs 4:23).

Every one of us have our own issues. Financial, academic, spiritual, emotional, mental and social problems which can occur from external pressures. At this time and age, it seems that we find pleasure in worldly desires more than Godly desires, and this is where we feel the need to ‘attract’ our feelings into every situation. So if the guy you really liked hurt you, does that mean you should sulk until tomorrow? No, it is a sign that God is bringing you out of a negative and painful situation, and is preparing you for the man who He has in store for you. Don’t cry over people who left you, but rejoice because God knows the right people to take away and keep in your life. We cannot dictate the steps of the Lord, but what I strongly know is that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. (Psalms 37:23). When our steps are ordered by God, we will eventually walk into the blessings that are in store for us.

Tears are a very good way to release the inner pain that you cannot relate to anyone about. Crying is good for the soul. I strongly believe that every single tear that falls from our eyes means something! Tears are powerful! Tears are not a sign of weakness. Tears can be a way of fighting the enemy if you use the Spiritual Armour of God. If you are struggling with your emotions, why not ask God to help you manage them? Maybe it could be the people you are surrounded with. For all I know, bad company corrupts good manner, so now is the time to evaluate the people you have in your life, and choose wisely the ones you believe will help you overcome your feelings.

The way to control our emotions is to CONTROL OUR MIND! Everything you decide to do starts from the mind including the clothes you decide to wear, the food you buy, the people you talk to etc. We must renew our emotions through the daily output of scriptural principles. When we immerse ourselves with the Word of God, we will soon begin to realise that after all this time, we can control our emotions instead of our emotions controlling us! This is why it is not good for man to be alone. When we stay alone, so many thoughts come to mind. Thoughts of doubt, thoughts of fear, thoughts of worry, thoughts of anxiety, thoughts of rejection, thoughts of loneliness, thoughts of stress, thoughts of sorrow. These are none of our portions! Not any one of you! We have to learn how to start pouring our hearts out to God. Yes at times we do feel the need to speak to someone directly, but even God Himself is there. That is what Faith is! Although we cannot see Him, we have confidence that He will answer in our time of need.

Another word of advice: Don’t rely on your emotions as they can vary according to your circumstances. There will be times in our lives when we will hear good news and our emotions will jump up; other times we will hear sad news and feel so pitiful. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in this process. You are not alone! It is good to release the pain.

In all things give thanks to God for He is good and His mercy endures forever!! Your emotions will one day become your testimony to someone out there that is struggling to handle their emotions. Remember God cares about our emotions more than our ability to be Spiritual.

Knowing your Worth in Christ Jesus

Worth 1

A man taught me to value myself now more than I ever have. A man taught me to never settle of less than what I deserve.

A man taught me to feel beautiful in my own skin first before I can with his words of compliments.

A man taught me to never tolerate disrespect of any level.

A man helped me to become a strong lady that I am today, but the Lord stepped in and taught me love that I now understand is only eternal from Him and never truly from man.

(Frances Virtue: Co-Founder of WWCG)

Ladies, we must remember that our worth is in Christ, not in any man. God understands that we need companionship, but He must be our first point of contact in everything. Remember that He who finds a good wife, finds a good thing and obtains FAVOR from the Lord. (Proverbs 18:22). I know how hard it can be at times to believe in yourself. Maybe you are lacking low-self esteem, or you don’t feel as beautiful as other ladies, or maybe it seems as if you are fighting with yourself. You are not alone.

Your personal identity, in other words, how you see yourself is often shaped by your early experiences in life. Maybe your parents said things to you as a child that made you doubt your worth. Maybe you were rejected or abused. If so, Joyce Meyer can relate to what some of us may have been through. She experienced every kind of rejection and abuse as she was growing up. She was sexually, verbally, emotionally and physically abused by her father from the time she could remember until she finally left home at the age of 18. She then carried those emotional wounds into her first marriage to a man who also treated her badly and eventually left her. What do you do when you come out of one situation, and realise you are trapped in a worse situation? How do you handle it? It is easy to run to the next guy who calls you lovely names, but is that what will give you full satisfaction?

Ladies, we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. No amount of make-up, clothing, or money can define your worth. It is what is inside you that defines who you are.

CHARACTER is what you are; REPUTATION is what people think you are. Can you see the difference? Your worth is defined by your character in Christ. In other words, it is WHO you are in Christ. Relative to your reputation that is defined by man. Character must always exceed reputation. Lets look at the comparative differences below:

  • Character is built by your attitude; Reputation is built by your performance.
  • Character is determined by what you stand for; Reputation is determined by what you fall for.
  • Character is what God knows about you; Reputation is what men say about you.
  • Character is what you are really like in the dark; .Reputation is what men see you doing in the light.
  • Men look at the outward; God looks at the inward (your heart).
The way we perceive ourselves will directly affect our conduct. God’s word supplies each of us with the proper self-view: We should not think more of ourselves than we ought, nor should we think less of ourselves than what God does. As ladies, we should have a balance. Where we find our identity is so important because we behave in line with what we believe about who we are.
Keep looking to Jesus and His Word for a definition of your true identity; remind yourself of and live in the reality of these truths, and watch Him transform your life!
Jesus loves each and every one of us. He knows our flaws, He knows our pain, He knows our struggles, but each of these things gives us hope for a better tomorrow. We should not allow anybody to define who we are, by what we say or do, or the job we work in, or our social group. I would rather be in a position where I allow God to tell me who I am, rather than man to tell me who I am. Another obstacle that can be blocking your worth is emotions. I will speak about this on my next post! We all have emotions of course, but they can tend to distract us of our true identity. The tears we cry should be handed over to the Lord. Let Him take your emotions. We must remember that:
“We are a chosen generation, called forth to show His excellence. All I require for life God has given me, and I know who I am. I know who God says I am, what He says I am, where He says I’m at, I know who I am. I’m working in power, I’m working miracles, I live a life of favour, coz I know who I am! Remember you are Holy, you are Righteous, You are so Rich, You are BEAUTIFUL!!
Stay beautiful and remember to know your worth in Christ Jesus!
Your worth is hidden in Christ!

Uncomfortable Environments

Uncomfortable 1

Do you feel like there is a sharp thorn inside of you? A deep feeling of pain, torment, stress, anxiety, depression? Paul experienced a sharp thorn in his side. What he was trying to explain was not that he had the physical thorn in his side, but types of troubles such as illness, depression, anxiety, loneliness; to name a few. But when we look at it from a spiritual perspective, we see that the thorn was a message from Satan. The feelings we feel at this present moment can either be good or bad; you decide to be happy or you can decide to be miserable, it is all down to you.

Paul’s thorn in the flesh was a wicked spirit sent by Satan to buffet him. Buffet means to strike repeatedly. God does not send wicked spirits against people in the Body of Christ for any reason. Read James 1:13. He sends the Holy Spirit and has given us His Word, which is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and for instruction in righteousness to discipline and guide us. When we face troubles, the first thing we should do is to seek God. Let God be your first point of contact. We are all surrounded in uncomfortable environments. It may be physical issues, financial issues, health issues, academic issues, mindset issues; all these things can be uncomfortable. But how do you handle pain that nobody can understand? How do you succeed when things are working against you?

In the Bible Job, one of the most humblest man of God was very wealthy. He had it all. Unexpectedly, he lost it all. He lost his children, his money, and his health. That is when he decided to pray. But can I ask you a question; do you just pray when problems arise, do you only speak to God when you are in need, or should your mind be on seeking God for who He is? If we were to lose everything and only seek God to retrieve our desires back, then really, you are not living for God’s purpose, but living for yourself. Job had to take himself out of the situation and fix his mind on God, because he knew that it was only for a season that he lost his possessions.

How would you feel if you lost everything? Would you get angry? Would you become resentful onto others? Job of course was upset, and I can totally relate. But he did not allow his feelings nor emotions get to him, for if it did, he would not have seen the Power of God in his life. Notice that he did not say “Oh how am I going to get my money back, or my health back, or my children back?”. No, he realised that when we stand with God in the midst of our uncomfortable environments, He will hear our cry. It is not about us, but it is ALL ABOUT HIM! We are servants of the Most High. We must be able to come to a conscience decision where we surrender our all to God and allow Him to have His way in our lives. Rather than Him serving us, let us serve Him.

When you are in right standing with God, everything else will fall in place! I say this with Faith because I know how it feels to lose some things. It can be painful to open up to people at times. People will judge you based on your outward appearance. They will perceive you as having a lot of possessions, but realistically, they do not know what you are going through behind closed doors. Your smile has covered up your pain, but only God knows the real pain you are going through. In this life, YOU LEARN WHEN YOU LOSE WHAT YOU LOVE; WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING LEFT BUT GOD YOU DISCOVER THAT GOD IS ENOUGH! And it is true. Until you experience painful situations, that is when you will experience God’s power in your life. You can’t be in a comfortable environment and expect everything to be 100% perfect. There will be problems, but His Grace is sufficient for all of us!!

The book of Job is mainly about him arguing with God and complaining about life. Have you ever been in a situation where you have felt tempted to argue or complain about life? Where you feel no peace? Where you feel your friendships/relationships falling apart? Where it feels like there is no hope? You are not alone! Lets be real, we have to be honest with God about how we feel. Although He already knows, it is vital to express these feelings to God regardless. Only He can change what you are feeling from within. No man, woman, career, or money can make you happy apart from God Himself. Remember God can handle your complaints, but as long as your eyes are on Him, He will teach you, correct you and guide you all the way through your uncomfortable environments.

But may I ask, what are you so uncomfortable of?:

1) Is it your job? The one you were thanking God for when the manager offered it to you?

2) Is it your partner? Remember you were on your knees asking God to grant you a husband…

3) Is it your academic studies? Despite the hard work and tight deadlines, you said you were not gonna give up regardless of how hard it may be…

4) Is it your child? Remember that time you were praying for God to grant you a child and that is what you received?

5) Is it just everything in life? Your relationship with God, your family and friends, your co-workers, society, peer pressure, money, stress??

We have all been there!! Some of us are going through terrible situations than others.Regardless of whatever difficult situation you are in, God is able to give you Peace! You just need to ask, for His Peace surpasses all human understanding! God does not give us peace as the world gives! The world’s peace is simply temporary, but God’s peace is eternal forever! Know the difference. The enemy will deceive you if you are not strong enough in the Lord. His plan is to kill, to steal and to destroy, but God said that He came to give us life in abundance (John 10:10). God as powerful as He is, the omnipresent God, understands where you are in life. Why not trust Him?

Sometimes we will face problems, but they are only for a season! God won’t put you in a situation where you cannot handle pain. Yes you may cry, yes you may fall out with loved ones, BUT HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU! Remember that your latter days WILL be greater than your former days! Don’t think about the God of yesterday, but dwell on the God of tomorrow and for the future! In other words, don’t just thank God for what He did in your past, thank God NOW for what He is going to do in your future! Yes God blessed you last week, but do you have enough FAITH to trust Him for your future blessings? What will it take you to put your all in God? Remember God will not invest in something that He can’t generate a greater return from. If you think your only going to speak to God on behalf of your problems, then some readjustments will have to be made. We can’t expect God to always answer our problems, and not thank Him for the things He has already done. Let us take away that “I” mentality. Remember without God, we are nothing!

So if you’re in an uncomfortable environment, and this could be situations at work, at home, at college/university, with friends and loved ones, keep trusting God and He will bring you through!! We must trust in His power and His strength. Your uncomfortable situations will become your testimony. Do not give up on God because He will not give up on you. God knows your current situation and will show up when you least expect it. Yes at times, God will not speak instantly, but you will definitely know it is Him speaking to you. When you can differentiate other voices from His voice, that is when you will experience better peace. You have to be strong in this life, you have to know who God really IS to you! But can I ask, what is He to you? Is He just a friend? Is He just a co-worker? Is He just your God on a Sunday morning, Is He just your God when all your problems are stressing you out?

There will be problems day after day, but in Matthew 6 it says that we should not worry about what the day will bring, for even tomorrow will have its troubles of its own. Acting in confidence and continuing to trust Him in your darkest moments is a sign that you are COMING OUT of your situation and you are walking in progress! It may be slow, but slow progress is better than NO PROGRESS! We all want to come out of our uncomfortable environments. But please do not expect it to be for a day, because it won’t. Problems can be ongoing, however the good thing is you have the power to control your problems by consulting your Father. When you feel alone, talk to someone. God puts people in our lives for a reason. At times, we will need encouragement from others. It is vital to our daily needs. Be encouraged today that your uncomfortable zones will be your greatest testimony. You can use what you are going through to be a blessing onto someone else.

Note: For every minute you are angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness.

Don’t allow your circumstance to change your mood!

Every one of us wants progress. We want to strive to get better, to be in a position where we see ourselves thrive. What is progress to you though? Is it obtaining all the degrees in the world? Is it being the richest person on earth? Is it being famous? Philippians 3:12-14 says: “Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.

This is Paul speaking. Paul knew where he was going. He was on his own lane focusing on his goal. When you know where you are going in life, nothing can move or stop you. There is progress in each and every one of us. Whether it is small or big, we are all progressing. I remember when I graduated from University, and I was telling myself that until I find my full-time job in my desired area, I will start to see progress. Up till now, I have not yet obtained my full-time job, but what I am proud of is how FAR I have come as an individual. I am grateful that God has been helping me to progress within my situation. God has been showing me how blessed I am in my current position, being a blessing towards other people, developing myself as an individual, being more sociable and helpful towards others, and finally knowing the Will of God! When you begin to acknowledge your weakness, God will show you His strength and therefore will enable you to progress step by step.

We tend to put limits on ourselves because of what we don’t have because we have placed our focus on what others have. Being blessed does not mean always having what your neighbor has. We need to remember that our progress does not come from man, but it comes from God alone. So do not put yourself in a position where you feel tied up in what others have, because it is God who provides the blessings. You may not feel as if you are progressing in the situation you are in now; trust me I know because I have been there, but you must realise that the progress is in the JOURNEY of your final destination. When you feel stuck, just kneel down and pray and ask God for progress, ask Him to direct your steps, because the STEPS OF A GOOD MAN ARE ORDERED BY THE LORD! (Psalms 37:23).

It is very easy to say you want to jump from 1 to 100, but what about the other 99 steps you need to take in order to reach 100? Do not be too quick to reach your destination. It is a step by step process. Those that rush end up nowhere, but when we take our time to work with the journey, eventually, we will see why it was so beneficial for us to go through a long process to reach the destination. Do you think God doesn’t know what you need? Of course He does! He knows our thoughts even before we think it, and what we are about to say before we speak it. We need to know the God we serve in order to progress in this uncertain world!

Tomorrow is not promised, so make the most of every opportunity today! In every area of your life, strive to progress! Progress comes from God! He gives us the strength to continually work hard to get to where we need to be. He will place people and take people out of your life for us to get stronger. All the tears, sweat, sleepless nights are not going to waste, because God knows everything. People may laugh at you, and see you as nothing, but God sees you as someone! It may feel like you are still in the same position as last year, but you are not! The only reason why you think you are in the same position as last year is because of your thinking. Think big, and you will end big! Think small and you will end small! There is power in what you speak out of your mouths.

Remember progress isn’t for the faint-hearted, it is for those who want to strive! Be the best, because you are the best! Keep saying that to yourself! Whatever your position, work hard to the very fullest! When people see you progress, then they will be convinced that God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can ever think or ask of. You cannot make progress without God. No matter how many degrees you have, no matter how many jobs you have, we must realise that all these come from the Lord.

“I would rather fail in a cause that will someday triumph, than triumph in a cause that will someday fail.”

How about you? Where are you putting your energy and time: into progress in the things of this world, or into true progress with God? Progress without God is no progress at all. The only progress that counts is progress with God at the center of our lives.
